Terms of service

The agreement between Jireward, the brands that run campaigns with us, and the shoppers who claim their rewards.

Last updated 27 September 2026

1Who we are

Jireward is a service run from Nairobi, Kenya. It lets brands selling in Kenya put a unique code on their packs, and pays a reward to the shopper who sends that code to us on WhatsApp.

In these terms, “we” and “us” mean the operator of the service, a “brand” is a business with a dashboard account, and a “shopper” is anyone who sends us a code to claim a reward.

Part A applies to everyone. Part B applies to brands. Part C applies to shoppers.

Part A — Everyone

2Accepting these terms

A brand accepts these terms when it creates an account. A shopper accepts them by sending us a code. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

If you accept on behalf of a company, you confirm you are allowed to bind it. Where a brand has a signed order form or agreement with us, that document wins wherever it differs from these terms.

3Every valid code wins

Jireward is not a draw, a lottery or a prize competition. Every valid code has a reward behind it, set before the code was printed, and the money for it is set aside before the pack reaches a shelf. There is nothing to pay to take part beyond buying the product.

4Availability

We work to keep the service running, but we do not promise it will never be interrupted. Parts of it depend on services we do not control — WhatsApp, the mobile networks, M-Pesa and our payments provider. When one of them is down, a reward may arrive late; it is not lost.

5Fair use

Don’t try to break, overload or reverse-engineer the service, guess or generate codes, claim codes from packs you did not buy, or use it for anything unlawful.

We may refuse, pause or reverse a claim that we reasonably believe is fraudulent, and suspend any account or number involved.

Part B — Brands

6Your account and your team

You are responsible for who you add to your account and what they do. Roles decide what each colleague can reach: an owner controls money and the team, a manager runs campaigns and orders codes, finance handles budgets and payouts, and an analyst can only view and export.

Keep sign-in details to the person they belong to, and remove people who leave. Tell us promptly if you think someone has used your account who shouldn’t have.

7Your campaigns and your packs

You decide the product, the reward, the dates and the type of campaign. You are responsible for the promotion being lawful, for any approval or licence it needs, and for everything printed on your packs — including telling shoppers when the offer ends.

Cash rewards must be at least KES 50; smaller rewards are paid as airtime. This keeps every cash reward large enough to send to M-Pesa the moment it is won.

Once a campaign ends, its codes stop paying — including codes still on shelves. Set your end date with the last pack in mind. Pausing a campaign only holds claims until you resume it.

8Codes and print files

We generate your codes and give you a print file. Keep it confidential and share it only with your printer: anyone holding it can claim every code in it.

You can download a run’s readable codes for 30 days after it is created. After that we keep only a fingerprint of each code, which can recognise a code but cannot reproduce one — so a lost print file cannot be re-issued, only replaced by a new run.

Once a run exists, you cannot raise its reward. You can cancel a run at any time — its codes stop paying, including any already printed, and its reserved money is released.

9Your money

You fund your own wallet by M-Pesa or a payment link. It is an account in your name at our payments provider, kept apart from other brands’ money and from ours. We credit what actually arrives, after the provider’s collection fee.

Ordering a print run reserves enough to pay every code in it, plus a WhatsApp delivery fee at the rate shown when you order. A run your wallet cannot cover is refused. The rate is fixed for that run; a later price change only affects later runs.

  • Reserved money is still yours. Rewards and delivery fees are taken from it as shoppers claim.
  • What is left behind unclaimed codes comes back to your available balance when the campaign ends or the run is cancelled.
  • You can ask us to return your available balance at any time. The provider’s transfer charges apply.
  • Platform fees are as set out in your quote or order form, and are exclusive of VAT.
  • We never forfeit a balance for being unused. If an account goes quiet, we will contact you about returning it.

A campaign’s budget is a spending limit you set; it does not move money. Only funding and withdrawals change your wallet.

10Shopper data

You see scans, rewards, survey answers and audience patterns for your own campaigns. You do not see a shopper’s name or phone number, and you may not ask us for them or try to identify a shopper from what you see. Our Privacy Notice explains what we keep.

Don’t use a survey to ask for anything a shopper would not expect a brand to ask, such as ID numbers, health details or contact details.

11Liability

We are not liable for lost sales, profit, or goodwill, or for any indirect loss. Our total liability to a brand in any 12 months is limited to the platform fees that brand paid us in those 12 months.

That limit never touches your own money: funds in your wallet remain yours whatever happens, and are returned to you if the service ends.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited, such as for fraud.

You are responsible to us for claims arising from your promotion, your packs or your products.

12Ending the service

You can close your account at any time. End your live campaigns first; once they end, your unspent reserved money is released and we return your whole balance to you.

We may suspend an account immediately where it is being used unlawfully or fraudulently. For other breaches, including overdue fees, we will give 14 days’ written notice first. Either way, rewards already won by shoppers are still paid.

Part C — Shoppers

13Claiming a reward

You must be 18 or over, and have a Kenyan mobile number on WhatsApp. Send the code from inside your pack to our WhatsApp number — scanning the QR on the pack opens the chat with the message ready.

Each code can be claimed once, by the first person to send it. Keep the code private until you have claimed it.

A code can only be claimed while its campaign is running. Before it starts, or while the brand has paused it, we will tell you to try again later. After it ends, the code no longer pays.

14What you receive

The brand decides the reward — its value, and whether it is airtime or M-Pesa cash. You cannot swap one for the other or for anything else.

  • Instant reward: paid for one code.
  • Multi-scan: paid when you have sent the number of codes the campaign asks for, from the same campaign, on the same WhatsApp number. Your count carries on between packs, and starts again after each reward.
  • Survey: paid when you have answered every question.

15Getting paid

We ask which number to pay and confirm it with you before sending. Check it: a reward sent to the number you confirmed has been paid.

If a payment fails because the number cannot receive it, we ask you for another number — you do not lose the reward. If it fails for a temporary reason, such as a network delay, we keep trying without you needing to do anything.

Rewards are paid from the brand’s funds, sent by us on the brand’s behalf. Any tax on what you receive is your own responsibility.

16Help and complaints

Type “help” in the chat to reach a person. Complaints about a payment are answered from our payment records first, so tell us the reference we sent you if you have it.

Complaints about the product itself belong with the brand that made it.

17Our responsibility to you

If you claimed a valid code, we are responsible for paying the reward it promised. We are not responsible for a reward sent to a number you confirmed, or for a delay caused by WhatsApp, the mobile network or M-Pesa.

Nothing in these terms takes away your rights under Kenya’s Consumer Protection Act, 2012.

General

18Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We will give brands at least 14 days’ notice by email of a change that affects them. A change never alters a reward already promised by a printed code. The date at the top shows when this wording last changed.

19Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Kenya, and the courts of Kenya decide any dispute. We will always try to settle a disagreement by talking first.
